GLOUCESTER CITY A 2 STROUD 1

GLOUCESTER City moved up to fourth in North Division One with a victory over Stroud despite being without captain Pete Tyrrell and top goal scorer Mark Charania.

After a barren first period with few goal scoring opportunities, Andrew Tyrrell opened the scoring midway through the second half after receiving an aerial pass via man of the match Grant Ward.

Tyrrell beat the last defender and scored at the near post to give City a deserved lead.

City's lead lasted all but two minutes, as Stroud replied after a shot from the top of the circle found its way past goalkeeper Mark Godwin's right foot.

With five minutes remaining, Tyrrell squared the ball across the Stroud goalmouth and the deputising Dave Boon nicked a touch to give City all three points.

Gloucester City: Mark Godwin (GK), Grant Ward, Mark Bateman, James Bull, Iain Atkinson (Capt), Trevor Done, Alex Tranter, Ketan Patel, Andrew McGuinness, Andrew Tyrrell, Dave Boon, Scott Struthers.

GLOUCESTER City Under-18s girls travelled to Bristol in the last-32 of the England Hockey Cup competition.

Upon arriving the pitch was completely waterlogged
A volunteer was asked for to go in goal and the team owe a tremendous 'thank you' to Clare Barwood who bravely put on the kit.

So the game started with Gloucester only having 10 girls but were soon in the lead with a tremendous shot from Annia Fabian completely catching the keeper unaware.

But Firebrands were not daunted and came back strongly, going into a 3-1 lead.

Gloucester rallied again and just before half-time, Jess Millington scored another fine goal to make it 3-2 to Firebrands at half-time.

With Suzy Green giving a motivational half-time talk, Gloucester came out strongly after the break.

However, Firebrands gradually wore a tiring Gloucester down and scored three more goals.

Gloucester kept going and from a well deserved penalty corner Lisa Daley struck the ball home to leave the scores at 6-3 to Firebrands.

Kate French made many fine tackles in defence, while Lisa Daley ran her heart out in midfield.
